Acid Survivors and Women Welfare Foundation (ASWWF) conducted an awareness programme for
students from Union Christian College, Meghalaya, along with their faculty members, on 3rd
June 2026 at our Tangra office.
A presentation was given on the founding of ASWWF by Dr.
H.
P. Kanoria who endowed it as a not for profit non-governmental organisation head quartered
in Kolkata and with branches at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bhubaneswar and Patna.
The
consequences of acid violence, its trends in India, the impacts of acid attacks on victims,
the challenges they face, medical, investigative, judicial and rehabilitative aspect of the
service provided by ASWWF.
The faculty members and students were presented with
“Enlightenment, a journey within through service”, Swami Vivekananda Journal and
certificates. HiTea and snacks was served to all the students and faculty.
The urgent need to combat acid crime in India led to the founding of Acid Survivors
Foundation
India (ASFI) in 2010. ASFI is an initiative of SREI Foundation under the Chairmanship of Dr
H P
Kanoria who has endowed it as a charitable trust.
The name ASFI was changed to ASWWF’s as its scope of work was expanded and it has now been
working to mitigate all forms of violence against women through carrying out advocacy and
prevention campaigns to raise public awareness to usher in changes in attitude towards
women. By
working with communities and other stakeholders, ASWWF is supporting, developing and
implementing strategies that try to eradicate this crime.
